ThunderCore will undergo a hardfork at session 12089, block height 163550404, on 2024-05-14 13:53:43 +0800 (UTC+8).
Introducing ThunderCore Athena, the result of our hard work in delivering the Ecosystem Sustainability and Stability Enhancement initiative as proposed and voted on by our community in November 2023.
The goal of this major network upgrade is to increase computer and storage architecture supported by ThunderCore nodes for better efficiency and reduced costs, to prepare ThunderCore on-chain governance for the future, and to make ThunderCore APIs easier to consume from various programming languages.
With this Hard Fork, we will aim to further solidify our goal of ecosystem enhancement and expansion as we rev up for the journey ahead.
Why Athena?
Previously, we introduced the Iris Hard Fork which was named after the Goddess of Communications. Iris was all about highlighting our vision of better cross-chain interoperability that offers the perfect environment for great projects to scale.
Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom, strategy, and weaving. Athena is here as she perfectly symbolizes our aim of strategic improvements that will push our ecosystem’s efficiency to the next level.
Planned Upgrade
- Shared read-only historical data to greatly reduce the storage cost of running multiple archive nodes
- ARM architecture and cross-platform support improvements so users can run a ThunderCore node on any architecture they prefer
- On-chain voting of governance parameters for validator nodes
- Improved JSON-RPC APIs for consistency and efficiency
We aim to open up the possibility and potential of bringing ThunderCore to ecosystems everywhere by enabling it to run on computers big and small. In a landscape that’s becoming increasingly varied, we believe that having flexible infrastructure will be key.
Accompanied by more strategic upgrades that will focus on enhancing efficiency and lowering costs, Athena will pave the way for our journey moving forward as ThunderCore becomes one of the fastest and most flexible public blockchains.
